Will It Hurt?

Everybody agrees that massage, moxibustion, and cupping feel great. It is the fear of needles (or rather of an unskilled acupuncture doctor) that turns people away from acupuncture. Let me tell you: while acupuncture can be painful in the wrong hands, my patients not only benefit from it but also ENJOY IT. Some people even go to sleep during the treatment!

Not At All!

In most cases, acupuncture causes minimal discomfort. A patient may feel a slight sensation upon needle insertion and then dull pressure when the needle reaches the correct point. Of course, much depends on the location (hands and feet tend to be more sensitive), the condition being treated, and the acupuncturist’s technique. It has been my experience that most of the perceived pain is actually caused by anxiety rather than actual pain.
